America Would Be More Happy with More People

- binarynate 5y agoI'm not sure I agree that slow US population growth is as big of a concern as Tyler argues, so I posted the article here to see others' comments / thoughts.
- binarynate 5y agoIn the short term, the extraordinarily slow growth seems to be largely due to the pandemic, which seems reasonable. In the long term, if growth were to remain similarly slow, then I would be concerned.
- hindsightbias 5y agoUntil you have robots to pick those crops, flip those beyond burgers, brew that latte and do sheetrock, you might want to keep those borders open.
- onecommentman 5y agoPaywall: can’t read. But that never stops us from speculating based on the title/thesis. The USA is lucky (and all the Americas are lucky) in that we have more wiggle-room in guessing what the best population growth rate should be. Nobody is going to starve in the US (for many decades at least) if we guess wrong. China/India/Africa on the other hand… Bloomberg has a NYC bias and the business plan for NYC has always been import unwashed masses, exploit them mercilessly but provide the resources/opportunities for their children to have a better life in the US. Immigration shuts down, and NYC becomes a pretty sickly shark. That should be noted…
