The Air Force's 60-Year-Old B-52 Bombers Are Getting Their First USB Ports
- lp0_on_fire 5y ago> The two reservists say that each light/USB combo costs approximately $2,800 to make. The idea, as it stands now, is that a single B-52H would have three of these units installed in its cockpit. Tldr; They're proposing to spend $2800 x 3 for each aircraft so they can upgrade a flashlight and provide charging for an ipad. This is the epitome of government waste. Last I checked, B-52 pilots got along fine for a good 50 years with paper maps and checklists, which also have the benefit of not needing electricity at all. Have we had a bunch of problems with B-52 pilots being unable to read paper maps and checklists that I don't know about?
