HN has definitely changed the conversation for developers, hackers and entrepreneurs. YC has also had an outsized influence on the tech world in mainly North America and to a much lesser extent Europe. Meanwhile they are a negligible force in China, Asia, Africa and Latin America where there are many regional accelerators. But they did inspire many copycats and thats their biggest contribution. I assume there 1000s of accelerators/incubators around the world now.
