Nhtsa investigating Tesla over infotainment display gaming feature
- sidibe 5y agoHaha why would they even think that's OK? In most cars the passenger can't even set up bluetooth unless they're parked. Lots of companies anticipate legal problems and self-regulate, Tesla does whatever it can get away with and regulators can't keep up.
- liminalsunset 5y agoI reaaaaaaallllyyy reaaaaalllyyyy hope this does not lead to Tesla's ability to use the browser while in Drive being removed. It is one of the only cars that allows this, and no, I don't intend to browse while driving, I would like to use that feature to run my own software on the car without having to root it, such as that Tesla energy use dashboard from GitHub. This is an underrated feature IMO, aside from lack of audio in/output, the Tesla vehicle is shipped with the native ability to run user code as a website - One can imagine the possibilities associated with adding a raspi in the glove compartment connected to the WiFi.

If it doesn't, it's likely to lead to the exception in device use while driving laws for built-in devices being narrowed to particular enumerated-in-law functions, which would be a much bigger loss.
