One of the most enlightening experiences I have had was living in a country where I was not a fluent speaker of the dominant language. The struggle one experiences just to convey meaning is so intense that you have little time for other pursuits. I greatly appreciate the effort non-native English speakers undertake in our system. It’s my job to be understanding and help them feel more comfortable doing a very difficult thing.
