The area where I live in Singapore has sidewalks lined with large coconut palms. During Covid lockdown in 2020, all of the palm trees in my area were loaded with coconuts as a result of the workers not being allowed to leave their dormitories. Normally the coconuts are trimmed from the trees before they start dropping en masse.
While on the topic of falling objects, there’s a local/regional saying that durian trees have eyes as apparently durians only drop at night.
- Daub 5y agoI lived in Singapore for many years. The trees there have a tenancy to drop limbs, perhaps a result of the large number of parasite plants which grow on them. On the occasions I missed being hit by large falling branches, and this was in a week kept university compound. It seems that Every country offers unique ways to die.
