I don't remember why I was there, particularly as a physics major, but I remember a single look through while half-opening the door to a 4th? floor lab in Evans (UCB) in 1978 or so, understanding it to be the Unix lab. Not a brush-with-greatness moment per se, but "how might life be different if I had gone through the door?". I might have been lookiing for one Dr. McKracken or someone. Missed the colloquium two years later where the talk afterward was: Everyone will have a VAX on their desk.
