I've had a few close calls with coconuts, that very well could have killed or seriously injured me. Sitting on a beach reading under a tree, a bowling-ball sized coconut missed my head by about a foot. Another time I was lying on the sidewalk in front of my house and one missed by a couple feet; that almost certainly would have crushed my skull. My car had a few dents from coconuts blown off the tree and about four feet laterally, so you don't even have to be right underneath. Those things are no joke.
