Man Creates Traffic Jams By Wheeling Around 99 Cell Phones In A Trailer (2020)
- BillSaysThis 5y agoOne would think Google Maps can be updated to ignore this kind of use case. Even the biggest busses don't care more than what, 50 people? Just ignore the signals when there are more than say 10 phones inside a three meter radius, with whatever values for those two variables are based on real data. Kind of hilarious though that the artist dreamed this up.
- xuki 5y agoPeople on bus usually don’t have Google Maps open, and definitely don’t use turn by turn navigation.
- cozzyd 5y agoSounds like we should though to prevent congestion from motorists.
- jimmygrapes 5y agoIt does have bus route information and indicators when to switch lines, as well as walking turn by turn instructions for times when you might need to walk to a different bus stop to complete the route.
- loonster 5y agoThe streets are deserted. I doubt this would work with actual traffic. I would hope the app would be able to see traffic quickly flowing around the "jam".
- legitster 5y agoI believe Google uses this same functionality when it gives you an estimate of how "busy" certain restaurants are. And anecdotally, it can feel like their estimates underestimate the crowds at expensive places were most people have iPhones and overestimate the crowds at cheap places where Android user propagate.
- ashwagary 5y agoSounds like a terrible attack for a business to experience, if most of their traffic is Android/gmap users
- 28uwedj 5y agoBecause iphones dont have google maps installed at all.
- cardiffspaceman 5y agoMine has Google Maps because my 1st gen iPad had it, and so I would have had to take action to not end up with two maps apps. iOS maps were not well regarded at first, in case you don't remember that far back.
- matt-attack 5y agoI was the same. But for several years now I use IOS maps exclusively and have long since deleted Google Maps. It feels great having google completely out of my life.
