It sounds like you're trying to rationalize bad behavior. Actions have consequences, no matter the medium (physical or digital). Where is the line drawn between "real" and "fake"? Who gets to determine that line? Who gets to decide if that line was crossed? Where does it say that it is "meant to be an escape"? "going to be harassed", most likely, but does it have to be that way, no. I argue the harassers are the ones who are not mature and need to grow up.
