My take is that he's not satirizing. He's simply stating fairly mainstream and popular views. That we don't hear much about. The over-amplified fringe of both right and left contemporary identity and tribe-driven politics speak nothing to most people, who want intelligent and pragmatic solutions to real-world issues, not ideological dross and culture war issues.
Most of us don't fit in the idiotic dichotomy given us. Even a typical liberal centrist/leftist is quite at odds with much of the orthodoxy out there. One can be a 2A zealot and a straight progressive ticket otherwise. Just as one can be a China hawk, anti-2A, and pro-LGBT. Just as one could be on the right and in favour of gun control. Not anymore. We are now all square pegs being forced into round holes. But for all we protest against orthodoxy, our voices seem to disappear. Thus howling into the wind.
