This is a curious pattern and interesting to think about.
Jumping to the conclusion that it is caused by more female writers is a bit silly, though. Were there also more female writers in the early 19th century?

This website has a real blind spot when it comes to documenting "bad" behaviour by others, like this other article[1] where they measure how the term "Whiteness" is used in the NYT 3 times more often than 10 years ago. Seems like our political discourse is on a downward spiral.
