MIT Researchers Just Discovered an AI Mimicking the Brain on Its Own
- olliej 5y agoYou will be shocked to learn that the headline is overblowing what occurred. My interpretation of the article is that they studied a bunch of neural networks (GPT, etc) and found some of them seemed to behave similarly to real brains. They didn't create their own NN that developed similar structure, nor was it a matter of new behavior from a NN, just an analysis of pre-existing implementations.
- mmiliauskas 5y agoWhat is going on with the headlines these days? It is almost as if anything sansationalist can be safely ignored even if it is a decent journal/news paper...
- crawfordcomeaux 5y agoMost headlines I see these days are developed to attract, not inform. Informing people is currently less incentivized by money in this world than attracting eyeballs. I'm not aware of a single newspaper that's needs-centric and trauma-informed. One of those probably wouldn't do this kind of stuff, since money isn't a need.
- fxtentacle 5y agoThat and the interview was from 2019. It looks like they recycled old content with a catchy but misleading new headline.
- anaganisk 5y agoIsn’t it called a “Neural” Net for the same reason, I remember starting an ML book describe how a brain works and how we mimic it? In other words did they just prove that and existing ML algo is doing just that? Is it headlines because its MIT?
