You just sent this message to a whole bunch of servers that are almost certainly running x86-64 and that side is unlikely to change for the near future, I'm pretty sure that 64-bit Intel still has some life in it
- bdcravens 5y agoPublic clouds are increasing their usage of ARM all the time. I don't think anyone will ditch Intel processors soon (the same way that for those outside our space, they're still buying Intel laptops), but I think we will only see that usage grow in the datacenter. https://www.datacenterknowledge.com/arm/its-happening-arm-server-cpus-are-coming-data-center https://www.datacenterknowledge.com/arm/its-happening-arm-se...
- Turing_Machine 5y agoDisagree. Server hardware usually gets rotated on a fairly aggressive schedule, and power consumption absolutely matters for server farms.
- cassianoleal 5y ago> power consumption absolutely matters for server farms And heat, which makes cooling cheaper, has a good chance at reducing noise in the datacentre, etc.
- rdbell 5y agoFWIW my next project on AWS will almost certainly be using graviton instances.
