Ask HN: Should GitHub make about field mandatory?
I consider GitHub as a learning resource, having some description of the project could make things clearer. Also, it would be really nice to have some screenshots included.
- h2odragon 5y agoThe higher the barrier to sharing things, the fewer things will be shared. "WE won't lose anything but low quality dross that wasn't worth anything" is the usual counter argument, but that's an oversimplification at best. The long tail of "low attention" things provide room for the sparking and evolution of new ideas for which there is no room in the "high attention" center. So, no: there shouldn't be any block to sharing anything someone feels moved to donate to the world.
- nnurmanov 5y agoI see your point, I guess it makes a perfect sense.
- bborud 5y agoI'd still like to see someone try to convince me. (I actually don't have a strong opinion for or against, but if there is something worth understanding I'd like to know)
- toast0 5y agoIn addition to your point, making the field(s) mandatory doesn't make it mandatory to put useful information in the fields. It's better if people put nothing than if they put Lorem Ipsum.
