The only thing even more satisfying then defrag was to optimize your drive interleaving. I have fond memories of using SpinRite II (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpinRite https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpinRite) to optimize the interleaving on my overRLLd ST225s and ST251s on a Perstore controller! To think 30MBs was such a huge amount of storage.
