Electric vehicles ask a lot of their tires–here’s why
- gentleman11 5y ago> For one thing, EVs are generally heavier than an equivalent-sized, conventionally powered vehicle. I read over and over for years on multiple sites that EVs were far lighter than gas cars because they didn’t need an engine. Was that just marketing lies?
- neilalexander 5y agoThe electric powertrains are significantly lighter and simpler than their ICE counterparts. Batteries, on the other hand, are heavy.
- inglor_cz 5y agoEVs need an (electric!) engine too, but the engine and all the mechanical stuff around it is much simpler than in an ICE car, and thus considerably lighter. Unfortunately, the weight of the necessary battery more than compensates for that reduction. https://edition.cnn.com/2021/06/07/business/electric-vehicles-weight/index.html https://edition.cnn.com/2021/06/07/business/electric-vehicle...
- aitchnyu 5y agoDoes most of the wear come from a tire at standstill getting a big jolt of torque? Did anybody make an algorithm to introduce torque gently?
