Anti-Mimetic Tactics for Living a Counter-Cultural Life
- h2odragon 5y agoOwn yourself. You are the only one who can truly judge your goals and how well you're meeting them. The world wants you to be responsible for something; there may well be a reason but you have to understand it and feel it yourself to be comfortable and confident in meeting that responsibility. Just having it assigned makes it a chore you can shirk, which you then might regret later.

- podgaj 5y agoI miss the days when I traveled cross country with nothing but a Rand McNally atlas. To be free of the fear and anxiety of not knowing "where I am" (I am right here!) again is my current goal. However, now that traffic can be a mess in most cities (which I feel is new), I favor using my smartphone to avoid those situations when I can, but mostly I favor avoiding cities and taking the "long way" to preserve my sanity. I live in a van so this is more of a challenge for me than the average commuter.
- coolgeek 5y agoNote that mimetic theory [0] differs from memetics [1]. It also differs from mimesis (in general) [2]. The author does not make this mistake (at least not conflating 0 and 1). But unaware readers (and misspellers) are often confused by the distinction.
