What annoys me is the forced injection of memes on tech presentations. Not saying it never works - some folks have the talent and the timing. However most of the times, it just elicits forced smiles out of politeness.
- MrBuddyCasino 5y agoPeople that have something to say do so using text alone, the idea is rarely enhanced by the borrowed creativity of a meme or even an emoji. Its tempting to use something that made you smile, but it only comes across as lazy humour. It is the cringe tech equivalent of flat art & HR speak.
- notacoward 5y agoAgreed. A few well placed memes can be fantastic for moderating the mood, pace, or engagement level of a presentation. It's truly a joy to see one well used. On the other hand, when the author is obviously stretching for a meme to put on every single slide, it's just exhausting. It also starts to look a lot like laziness or insecurity, relying on humor because they're not confident about the content itself keeping people's attention. There seem to be a lot of frustrated stand-up comedians giving tech presentations. Seriously, I'd rather watch a good presentation and a real stand-up comedian separate, not a Frankensteinian stitching together of the two.
