Last Airbus A380 rolls off the production line
- dredmorbius 5y agoAirbus produced 251 A380s from 2005--2021, or 16 years. Boeing produced 1,560 747s from 1969--2023, or 53 years. That's a hell of a lot of R&D for a short life on the A380. Note that a number of airports underwent expensive terminal upgrades to accommodate the aircraft as well. Also an argument that certain technology does reach its practical limits.
- rdtwo 5y agoThe a380s biggest problem right now is that it can’t carry cargo efficiently or be retrofitted to do so effectively. They would still be pumping them out if they were practical for cargo. Boeing would have kept making 747s if they didn’t commit to shutting the line down and stop part production years ago. Freighter market is blazing hot
