On a tangent, I‘m surprised how much SD cards are failing to keep my photos intact. I found a couple old ones and saved them to cloud storage but it was too late - at least 10% of the jpegs are screwed up with artifacts, some of them are not readable. I wonder of these people had ever heard if redundancy? Is it cosmic rays?
- hansel_der 5y agoi feel like the whole naming "Secure Digital" and "Solid State Disk" is specifically chosen to distract from the fact that there is absolutely nothing "secure" or "solid" about the underlying technology (tiny capacitors that WILL discharge on their own). disclamiar: did write benchmarks with sd-cards in the past and was astonished by the failure rates. There also was (is?) little correlation to price, seemed like there was a huge variance in the quality of different batches of memory chips.
