Like everything else published about North Korea, this is completely false of course. I don't know how Western liberals can shit their knickers day in and day out about """disinformation""" and then uncritically guzzle cartoon plots like this.
- MisterSandman 5y agoFor someone this confident, it's funny how you didn't provide a source. I'm not saying you're wrong, but you need to do the bare minimum. This is HN not your grandma's Facebook wall.
- jim-jim-jim 5y agoAnd this isn't Reddit either, so please don't start with the disingenuous sourceweenieing. The extraordinary claim was made by the original article; it doesn't fall on the skeptical audience to produce timestamped footage of North Koreans laughing. The words "Radio", "Free", and "Asia" are enough to discredit this nonsense.
- xupybd 5y agoA link to back up your claims would still be appreciated.
- AnimalMuppet 5y agoYou consider Radio Free Asia to be less credible than, say, North Korea's news agency? If so, why?
- jim-jim-jim 5y agoI don't, and that's not relevant. I'm not sure why my replies are trying to prop up a dichotomy like this. Radio Free Asia is a naked propaganda outfit like RT or PressTV. This is well understood and not controversial. These bizarre and dehumanizing stories are never, ever rooted in concrete evidence. When lurid tales of citizens being banned from laughing or copying Kim Jong Un's coat or whatever are published, you'll never see any sort of primary document (a law, a public advisory, whatever) referenced. Our view of North Korea is shaped exclusively by "sources say." We're supposed to believe that this oppression is all-encompassing, but so perfectly obscured that it evades all objective documentation.
