My guess is that this data set is skewed towards the most highly paid engineers who speak English and have some work experience, so my guess is true average / median is closer to $2000. EDIT: missed the next paragraph where they actually add more details on this demographic: "The average salary for junior hire was $770 this year, almost the same as before the pandemic."
