Programmers should stop celebrating incompetence
- winternett 5y agoThe Internet has been stuck in this eternal of s#it-lording until burnout for decades now... Back when I was going to college there was an admin that sought to make my life a living hell, and he succeeded for 3 years, putting down my skills, using his admin rights to limit my storage and access, and telling me to not pursue a career in CS, because I was a political science major. Fast forward to 3 years after graduation I got my first job at an actual IT company and he went to jail after it was found storing CP on university servers. The people that do the most underhanded workplace things and put others down end up showing their true colors eventually. Don't worry about it or wait around near to them to see their failure, live your life. We're all crabs in a barrel fumbling around trying to find success and a stable life. Just be sure you don't become that same dismissive a-hole personality that you've encountered, unless the person you're telling the honest truth to is really a hack that needs to just find a better line of work because the shoe does not fit. Being a good friend can also mean telling people they're not good at development also. It's really ultimately about problem solving most of the time than perfectly formatted code with proper developer notation. Customers never read the notes anyway.
