Do you think you should be handed a job? That you shouldn't be treated the same way as other candidates who haven't showcased a portfolio and mentioned open-source contributions? There are better and worse technical interviews, but a lot of orgs would consider them due diligence, if nothing else. I wouldn't want to be the hiring manager who skipped the technical interview for a candidate who seemed special, if that hire didn't work out.
