I'll gladly be part of a movement to opt out of this. I tend to be very selective about technologies I let into my life. My wife hasn't always shared my view, but the metaverse she agreed doesn't need to be part of our lives. I hope the bifurcation is real because that will make it easier to keep the metaverse separate from the real world.
