Let me explain my downvote: 1) Obviously such efforts will help non-power users as well. A lot of people use touchpads. 2) Yes, power users also use touchpad.

2) Yes, power users also use touchpad. Duh.
- mgaunard 5y agoTouchpads get in the way of using the keyboard reliably, which is your primary source of input. They also provide inputs that are themselves unreliable and inaccurate. You're better off controlling the cursor with a trackpoint which also means you don't need to move your hands off the keyboard.
- HatchedLake721 5y agoEhm, I assume you never used a MacBook for work? (giving it a go or I tried my friends MacBook doesn’t count) No they don’t get in the way of using keyboard and no they’re not unreliable or inaccurate. I use MacBook keyboard + touchpad for almost a decade without external mouse and keyboard on purpose and I do 120 wpm on a on 2017 MacBook Pro with a 1st generation butterfly keyboard without touchpad getting into my way.
- mgaunard 5y agoI do have a Macbook Pro from circa 2010. I understand that by Apple fanboy standards, another older than a year is ancient, but to me that's pretty recent hardware. Only way I found to make this useable is to treat it as a SSH server I connect to remotely. Its touchpad certainly wasn't anything special, it's probably worse than the non-Mac average, only ever clicked correctly in some parts, before quickly getting stuck forever.
- __MatrixMan__ 5y agoI don't like pointing devices either, but if I have to chose between abandoning them and improving them until they become likable, I choose the latter.
- canadaduane 5y agoThis is a reasonable conclusion to draw after what most people experience on Windows or Linux; however, if you've ever used a MacBook touchpad for a few weeks, I think you might find it appealing: 1. it never clicks when it isn't supposed to 2. its acceleration curves are beautiful 3. it's always accurate when you intend to click on a particular pixel 4. there is no interaction between keyboard and touchpad (e.g. on Linux there is a "disable while typing" feature which disables the touchpad only because the touchpad experience is not perfect, therefore completing disabling it while typing is better than refraining)
- PeterisP 5y agoA good touchpad does not get in the way of using the keyboard reliably at all, this is a key part why we should not accept bad touchpads or bad touchpad software
