Chromebooks existed for years, even has coreboot.
They have them for Dell, and Lenovo Thinkpads. The main issue is there is no benefit for the end user. Why would they want to switch to linux as an end user?
- deadbunny 5y agoKnock $50 off the price and people will care.
- GhettoComputers 5y agoThey just installed Windows on their netbooks last time it was even cheaper. The people who think steam deck will make linux mainstream are going to just see the next deck come with windows and everyone who gets a deck installing windows on it to play games.
- GekkePrutser 5y agoThey might, but they'll be getting Linux for the wrong reasons. And will end up dissatisfied because they'll be expecting Windows only free. Which will hurt adoption more. FLOSS was never about free as in beer.
- vlunkr 5y agoThat's a great point. Unless there's some software you want to use that can't run on Chromebooks, there's probably not a compelling reason to switch.
