I use alt-d too, but I didn't notice any weirdness. A "default beep" you mean by "boop"? Control Panel -> Sounds -> Scheme: No Sounds. :) I filed irritation bugs via the "Page menu"->Report bug or broken website..., but I don't know if they go anywhere useful.
