"Americans will be able to renew their passports securely online, saving time from having to wait and the effort and cost required to print, go to a post office, and use a paper check. This new online process will be done with safety and security." Would've saved me a lot of headache this past summer, but glad to see it regardless!

Hopefully these won’t be boondoggles like the launch of healthcare.gov https://www.brookings.edu/blog/techtank/2015/04/09/a-look-back-at-technical-issues-with-healthcare-gov/ https://www.brookings.edu/blog/techtank/2015/04/09/a-look-ba...

let’s see which of google, microsoft, amazon, ibm, etc. are going to be trust into those online services as an unoptoutable 3rd party. not only will these companies get a firehose of personal information on most residents/visitors, in exchange, this makes it much easier for the federal government to request the data back from them conveniently combined with other 3rd-party data (like location or call records) that might otherwise bring unwanted public scrutiny with it.
