The US is delaying China’s dreams of a domestic chip supply chain
- qck1 5y agoThis is old news, about 3 years old. China has already taken up a lot of the slack with domestic production. Estimates I have seen say China can become start of the art in areas it already does not lead in most areas within 5 years. Estimate on some of the harder areas are 10 years out. China will have to because US sanctions have limited access, so China has not choice but to work to become self-reliant. They US government is putting 50 billion into semiconductors, and new fab Intel is working on is about 27 billion. And the US is dumping 1.7 trillion into the F-35, 13 billion in Ford Class carriers, 4.5 billion annual cost. And efforts fail, that is expected. But China seems to be making carbon technology work, which should make silicon obsolescent, and is creating opto-electric chips that will be better than silicon in many applications.
