Post-disaster cleanup is expensive, time-consuming and wasteful
- ttyprintk 5y agoPut into a sustainability perspective, following Katrina people advised being wary of used cars, I guess because flooded ones from Louisiana were being resold to people who suddenly, desperately needed a car. I wonder if the lifecycle analysis considers recovery this way? Wood has five times less embedded carbon than concrete, but is steel five times more recovered in its lifecycle analysis? Sadly, the toxicity problem is even larger. Chemicals dumped following WWII, biological hazards melting through Russian permafrost, for example. Rather than drones scouting good deals on bare foundations, I hope we can deploy chemical-detecting drones to avoid nasty reactions hitting first-responders.
