- eesmith 5y agoBackground I just learned. Oganesson is element 118, first synthesized in 2002 and with a half-life of 0.69 ms. It's categorized as a noble gas in the periodic table, so one might expect it to not react. However, calculations suggest it is reactive. This paper says relativistic effects are so important that omitting them "leads to several erroneous predictions", including the question of if OgTn4 is stable. Best of luck to those chemists trying to figure out a way to validate this experimentally!
