At a gamer convention it's regrettable but vaguely understandable (in commercial terms), but at a security convention? One of the worse effects of this is that the hired booth help tends to shade from "out and out bimbo in fetish wear" all the way to "attractive person wearing the company shirt". The latter characterization, unfortunately, will overlap with competent engineers who happen to be female and attractive, who will thus get treated like rented decor by a lot of the attendees.
