If You Want Fast Code, Don't Use Assembly (2014)
- PaulHoule 5y agoI don’t believe it. Conventional languages like C do an enormous amount of meaningless activity just to keep up with calling conventions. If you aren’t diddling the stack and putting data in register x because the calling conventions say so your computer would be getting more done in less time. People said the optimizing compiler was better than you in 1990 and that was nowhere near true then, even a novice assembly programmer could beat the compiler consistently then and I doubt that’s changed.
