How Do You Tell the World That Doomsday Has Arrived?
- LinuxBender 5y agoMorbid answer? I wouldn't? Assuming a planet-killer is what you are talking about... If there is zero chance of escaping mortality then just distract people with other things. Individual people are intelligent. Groups of people panic and induce trauma and chaos. There is nothing to be gained from that and it isn't like we have high numbers of high capacity space ships. Even if we did, we are not advanced enough yet to have a pleasant life in space for tens or hundreds of thousands of years. Scientists have not yet solved astronauts getting a strange form of macular degeneration among many other issues of prolonged space flight. We would not be able to have enough water and food to last that long without a planet to get supplies from. Yes, we grow plants under ground in vertical greenhouses, but not at the scale to support millions of people in space. We do not yet have equipment that could extract the pockets of water left behind from the earth AFAIK. The list of issues could go on and on. Mars? Caves on the moon? Maybe for a handful of people for a while. Everyone in the mars/moon pods would have to be emotionally stable. One unstable person could end the human race. Regarding space ships, would we even have enough fuel to get 10 AU's from earth and still have life support? Where do we get more fuel? Solar sails? Can't leave this solar system with that and still be able to change course. We would have to point our ship on a path and just survive. We haven't solved extending human life via something like cryo-sleep or similar, have we?
