In fact, I have a feeling you're actually asking: "What are the coolest brands, as perceived by engineers, and why?" Which is about as substantial as asking what the _pinkest_ brands are, or what the most _geographically-distributed_ brands are. Or perhaps less so -- at least we can characterize 'pink' and 'geographically distributed' as reducible terms.
