Congratulations Mitchell, Armon, Dave, and everyone else at Hashicorp. We made a blog post to celebrate https://about.gitlab.com/blog/2021/12/09/congratulations-to-hashicorp/ https://about.gitlab.com/blog/2021/12/09/congratulations-to-...

- 0des 5y agoStarting to see this a lot, and it makes all the words of encouragement feel fake, because it is always using words like "we" and linking back to their own stuff. It comes off as hollow. nerds: stop bringing your own cake to other people's birthday parties.
- psygn 5y agoYeah, unless it's ice cream cake. I'm a sucker for that...
- Zababa 5y ago> nerds: stop bringing your own cake to other people's birthday parties. What does this have to do with nerds? Articles like that are probably written by PR staff.
- 0des 5y agoNot sure you're aware but, that's the CEO of Gitlab. It's poor taste, by nerds who should know better. We should be better than this.
- Zababa 5y agoI don't understand your insistance on "nerds" and don't see who "we" is supposed to be.
- badosu 5y ago"we" as a company as opposed to the authors spontaneous feelings. I don't know about the nerd thing though
- Zababa 5y agoDoes that mean that 0des is speaking as a Gitlab employee here? I'm sorry if the question is stupid, the whole thing sounds very confusing to me.
- badosu 5y agoAs far as I understood, the criticism is that OP as a chairman of Gitlab used 'we' to refer to the whole company as opposed to his own opinion. The criticism then refers to an appeal or sympathy grabbing with an economic motivation. I couldn't care less to be honest, just clarifying what I understood. Happy for Hashicorp, also love Gitlab.

- zenlikethat 5y agoOr perhaps they just want to give a shout out to a fairly rare bird, the massively successful open source company... or both.
- hantusk 5y agoGitlab just IPO'ed this year. It seems unlikely, that this would be a motivation.
- skrebbel 5y agoMaybe my Google Fu is failing me, but doesn't gitlab have double the market cap than HashiCorp right now? What money would they buy them with?
- usualglabpr 5y agoYuck, that post is so transparent and desperate attempt to have HashiCorp acquire GitLab.
- fastball 5y agoHuh, I didn't get that vibe from it at all.
