I’d expect science distrust due to scientists and the media spouting these kinds of easily disproven blanket statements to be a major driver of vaccine hesitancy.
Keep in mind that covid-19 spreads through wildlife and vaccines do not grant a large amount of protection against spread (declining from about 80% to about 20% in about 6 months).
So to pin the blame squarely on unvaccinated people is unwarranted. The reality is that new variants can emerge anywhere and vaccination is not going to end the emergence of new variants.
