Bros., Lecce: We Eat at the Worst Michelin Starred Restaurant, Ever
- hyperman1 5y agoWondering why anyone would subject himself to this, I had to think about John Cleese, who had a truly bad hotel while filming Monthy Python. The rest of the crew ran away, but he actually decided to ask his wife to come over. Together they wrote down every atrocity the owner did to his guests. They wrote the script of Fawlty towers based on this experience.
- phonypc 5y agoEven when better executed, this style of restaurant that's as much a theatre for performance art as a place to actually eat food is so odd to me. The few experiences I've had with it actually featured some delicious food, but everything else about it was so awkward and off-putting that I don't think I'd go back to the places even for a free meal.
- h2odragon 5y agoEpic. I've seen horse served at a "Steak house," someone caught a deal on cheap meat and put "Cheval Mignon" on the "Today's Special" chalkboard figuring the aspiring redneck crowd wouldn't get the reference (nor recognize a cow of a different color). That guy was just mean and raising money for drugs, tho. This kind of thing... Is it an art project? Is it some obscure nihilistic monastery type thing? How does this happen?
- eumenides1 5y agoThrilling I keep thinking about the staff in the article. Do they really think their stuff is good? It can't be! it must be some kind of joke. How did they get a michelin star? it really makes me wonder.
- simtel20 5y agoThey clearly know how to make food, but decided not to. They may have been better at recognizing food reviewers from other institutions in the past.
- CRConrad 5y agoJudging from the chef's response -- linked twice in the comments on the OP -- they're quite serious; the chef regards himself as an avant-garde artist. As to how they got, not one but IIRC three, Michelin stars I can only speculate: * They got them a while ago, and weren't quite as avant-garde back then. (In order to stay avant-garde, you have to get constantly more outré?) * The menu fluctuates depending on availability of ingredients and the chef's mood; the Michelin reviewers just got lucky and arrived on a better day.
- arrakis2021 5y agoRand Fishkin is a professional when it comes to whining, and this was a hilarious read. 10/10
- spacechild1 5y agoThis is bizarre! Maybe they just like to take the piss out of American tourists? :-D
