I try to stay away from C++ (successfully for the most part), but I do recommend Stroustrup's "Design and Evolution of C++". It is a bit dated by now, but it is the best book on the design and evolution of any programming language in general I have come across. (wink If anyone knows of a serious contender, please let me know!) I wish he'd update it to reflect the changes C++ has seen since the book was first published.
