I'm a fan of the declared, taxable value of patents rather than making an arbitrary pledge that could result in a surprise attack. My main concern is that the knowledge of a small company possibly infringing on IP (regardless of whether you feel patents exist or not) greatly disrupts the acquisition options by a larger company, as they would devalue the smaller company based on expected patent licensing/legal attacks.
