I doubt that they are being paid by Apple. Would we mind expressions of enthusiasm for, say, works of art? If not, what's wrong with such statements for products as long as they are genuine? The sales figures speak to a specific aspect the writer(s) want to highlight: that it's a difference to produce something like this a dozen times or a few million times.
