The global locus outside of the USA for rare disease research is Orphanet https://www.orpha.net/consor/cgi-bin/index.php https://www.orpha.net/consor/cgi-bin/index.php I would start there to find people and companies working on your partner's disease. No idea if there's a US equivalent.
