I recall many years ago that I had almost been run over by a police officer in the bay area making a left turn too short (and drove into the left lane of oncoming traffic). My bicycle was destroyed but fortunately I had survived unscathed.
I've noticed unless there's a car in a left lane, drivers often will cut into the oncoming left lane to prevent going too far right. I think it would be beneficial to add some sort of bollard between lanes so cars do not overcorrect, and could save lives from that implicit blindspot.
