Windows 11 vs. Windows 10, Tested: Will the OS Upgrade Speed Up Your Current PC?
- hnarn 5y ago> There’s a clear takeaway here, and put simply, it’s that we didn't see much performance difference between the two operating systems. That's pretty unsurprising since I haven't heard any claims that Windows 11 brings any significant performance improvements, but to be fair that would probably be extremely hard to do since the Windows hardware ecosystem is chaotic, it's not like a new version of MacOS where you're developing something that you know exactly what kind of hardware it's going to be running on. The only other option would be for Microsoft to hold off on improvements to Windows 10 and make them Windows 11 exclusive, which I don't doubt for a second they will as soon as they have something significant enough.
- 1970-01-01 5y agoAnecdotally, I have a significant cold boot time speed-up on an Intel Core 2 Duo HP Compaq Elite 8000 desktop system booting with a PCIe SSD. Since forcing Win 11 to upgrade it from Win 10, it will get me to the desktop less 60 seconds.
- HappySweeney 5y agoShouldn't DirectStorage significantly decrease load times in games? IIRC that's exclusive to Win 11.
- 999900000999 5y agoI can't say I'm really excited to update. I just want Windows 10 to be supported for the next 10 years. It's basically the perfect Windows. Things finally just work , WSL is great. The only thing annoying is Nvidia requires a heavy client just to install drivers. If Windows could integrate video card driver installation I'd be very happy. Not about to update to 11 and break everything.
- hyperman1 5y agoThis can be said of the latest 2 decades of windows. Every version adds boths stupid warts and new tech, and could be good enough for the next 10 years. Windows 2000: works, so let's start here Windows XP. Advances like stable DirectX and in SP3 reasonable internet safety. Stupidity like fisher price theme, DRM and FS virtualization. Administrator, meet System. Windows Vista. All new graphics driver architecture. But obsolete grandfathered in hardware and video driver instability. Trusted boot and further DRM integration. Windows 7. Let's call this a rebranded Vista Service pack. Drivers get a bit more mature, obsolete hardware is gone, and a few rough UI corners get polished. Windows 8. Nobody wants a tablet OS on a desktop, we get it anyway. Can't remember anything positive of this one, but there must be something. Windows 9 doesn't exist, Microsoft wands the number 10 like Apple. Windows 10. Microsoft actually shoved this on people's PC even if they didn't want it. Ads. Tracking that can't be disabled. But also cool propellerhead stuff like WSL. Notice the pattern: Every time some nice new tech;for the enthousiasts, but less and less control for the end user.
- 999900000999 5y agoThey want us like Mac Users, begging for permission to run code. I downloaded a game from itch the other day and it took me 10 minutes to get Windows to let me run it. I'd love a ' I know what I'm doing' button, it's not a work PC let me run the damn game
