- jdlshore 5y agoFormal research into software development techniques tends to be junk. It's very very hard to conduct a meaningful study of professional-scale development. The costs are too high, the confounding variables too many, and the industry demand too low. Typically you'll get software researchers with no industry experience conducting studies on "subjects of convenience"—their undergraduate programming classes.
