- petre 5y agoThere are no provisions in the EU treaty that bar member states from opening diplomatic missions on their territories, nor on which countries should they recognize. As a matter of fact, most EU countries have one or several representative offices of the ROC[1]. However, international trade agreements are negotiated by and for the whole EU block. 1. https://www.boca.gov.tw/sp-foof-countrylp-01-2.html https://www.boca.gov.tw/sp-foof-countrylp-01-2.html
- cblconfederate 5y agoThen why would EU be expected to give a coordinated response (the comment i responded to)
- petre 5y agoBecause it's a trade matter between an EU member state and China. Even if the EU does not react now, it will react later on. The EU-China CAI is doomed anyway, which is not good because as long as there's trade, a war is less likely. https://globalriskinsights.com/2021/09/the-eu-china-comprehensive-agreement-on-investments-cai-a-piece-of-the-puzzle/ https://globalriskinsights.com/2021/09/the-eu-china-comprehe...
