A refugee has the right to claim asylum in the first country they set foot in, not the 5 or 8th one of their choosing. The natural response to open borders thinking is to enforce this result. Beyond that, it's a little hard to stir up an emotional response. If these people truly are fleeing something terrible, this place isn't so bad.
