Toys Prove to Be Better Investment Than Gold, Art, and Financial Securities
- Bostonian 5y agoThe underlying paper studies Legos, not toys in general, so the article title is misleading. The article says "Average returns on LEGO sets are 10-11% annually", but "are" should be "were" since we don't know what LEGO returns will be going forward. The same is true of stock market returns -- past high returns do not necessarily mean future returns will be high.
- Nevermark 5y agoAnother product type I have noticed that seems to have "investment" potential (using that term in the loosest way) are special small-run quality editions of books that are very dear to people. Reading Machiavelli or Newton, or every James Bond novel (ahem!), in beautiful leather bound books with quality spines, can add as much as nice quiet location, a stiff drink, etc. when reading for enjoyment. The Bond novels were out of print, so they had me over a barrel. I suspect I am not the only victim.
